Sometimes you can't read the label when you're inside the bottle. Thankfully, we have Nate from @Channel Makers who caught me by surprise and called me out in one of his recent videos.

What's this about? Starting March 15th, 2020, I started live streaming here on the channel, and I ended up streaming for 365 days straight. Unfortunately, that MAY have not been the right decision. Let's watch Nate's thoughts, and my response.

Yep, thatās how I became part of this community and SPI Pro.
Do you think podcasting on a second channel would have been better in retrospect?
Yea this 100% true when i started doing long livestreams it killed my growth on youtube. Only advice i can give ya is dont do it. Create a new channel for those livestreama
Integrity at itās finest. Good job Pat
Pat, I think the problem was that you didn’t make daily smaller clips of your live stream. Yes, it’s true that not everyone wants to sit for an hour and listen to something on YouTube versus on a traditional podcasting platform where people are inclined to get long-form content. But if you had clipped out 5 minutes here 10 minutes there on the same day, then it would have been a more useful tool and you wouldn’t have had to put it off onto another Channel, it would have been independent content in and of itself and/or promotional content for the longer video.
Saw that and, without being over dramatic, The Income Stream was life changing; and I canāt be the only one. Massive ideas were learned, internalized and implemented. Went from having some real challenges to rebuilding a medical device and systems company thatās on the tip of the spear serving a lot of people in remarkably meaningful ways. My channel isnāt a main focus, but is starting to become a thing. My goal with that was to make it to The Ellen Show, but maybe thereāll be some other pivot. One word – SwitchPod!!!
Your content is great and you provide great service to 355k + people. That’s all that matters, eventhough it’s good to be self-critical to improve š Thanks! šš½
i def think youtube has room for podcast on this platform, i enjoy not only hearing people talk but see them talk and youtube kinda marrys them both into one and thier alot of room to grow , i mean i watch tigerbelly his channel is podcast styled and i some times find myself just listening and lol to them for hours , if you are relateable like minded individuals will follow and support you š¤ nice vid pattš
Every decision one makes will have both good & bad results.
Despite this, you stuck to your guns and cleared that year of streams despite the negative channel analytical parameters mention. More than that though, the experience has granted you wisdom in how to better things on the podcast front.
Kudos to you!
āThink Media Podcastā is crushing on YouTube. š¤·āāļø
Everyday we watched you we were proud of you and I don’t know what this Persian is complaining about
It all depends on what your goals are. You weren’t doing that to grow your audience. You were serving your current audience and anyone new who needed support if they lost their job. I think you blew it out of the park with that goal.
I saw Nate’s video too and I subbed to his channel. I also saw the video as well! Glad to see this video and your response. Glad it’s an overall positive and educational response too! Excellent stuff in this video and from Nate.
Man, it’s wild what 2020-2021 was. It was fun coming into your live shows in the mornings in 2020-21, Pat!
Sorry as a dedicated listener I still enjoyed it’ll get better
It’ll be interesting to see how this changes in future. Video creators channel (Tim Schmoyer ) has said that some recent changes by YouTube seem to be supportive of podcasting like background listening for premium subscribers.
Pat, I love ALL YOUR CONTENT, please keep going, don’t think that guy is right. I support u šÆ
THAT WAS A VERY GOOD 1 YEAR PAT, you know me and I’m a loyal fan.. though I can’t afford to buy your courses and stuff LOL still your live streams was like free stuff from your paid courses LOL
love ya for life
Loved your approach to this and sharing! I remember this and am thankful!
There are numbers and proof that he was right, BUT I donāt regret the year one but, and I look forward to streaming live again here very soon more regularly, with the lessons learned in mind. Iām so grateful for what we did on The Income Stream!
Oh I donāt regret it at all! It was the best year ever it just, based on the spectrum of āYouTube growth strategiesā, was not the best. But growth isnāt always the goal.
To be clear, I do NOT regret what I did AT ALL. It was actually one of the best things for what I felt was most needed at the time, for my community, and for myself. Would have I approached it a bit different…sure…but growth during that time on YouTube was not the primary goal. Nate is right with regards to how this effected my growth on YouTube, but I stand firm with, other than perhaps separating The Income Stream into a new channel, that I made the right decisions. I look forward to doing it again with all that in mind. To the Income Stream Community, thank you so much for that incredible year – it was life changing for me!
You didn’t stop everything to do the podcast format though. You complimented and supplemented it. I had dropped everything and changed the entire feel was the channel, which was Nate’s point. You’re doing awesome, and I enjoy your show! Can’t wait to see you soon I hope! š
It was a GREAT year! Thank you for being a part of it!
Keep up the great work Pat! Thank you
