What's better, a job that pays well that you hate, or starting something new that you're passionate about?
Today, during office hours for my course students, Gillan asked a question that I had to not just answer, but clip here for YouTube as well.
You can find Gillian's YouTube channel here:
What do you think? Would you stay, or would you try something new?

Weird, I was just thinking about that. Haha. Welcome back
Such a good title! Thanks for the advice Pat
PERFECT TIMING! ๐
The golden question ๐ Thank you for your insight!
Just remember “nothing is permanent but change.”
Gillian, it seems the profession you want to choose, may be personal!? Substance abuse must mean Something to you, one way or the other. So I’d agree with pat, you can make all the money in the world and still not have the DeLorean to go back. So follow your heart! You could possibly change somebody’s life forever by choosing substance abuse. You may save lives. My hats off to you. Thats a very tough choice to make, so do what makes you the happiest. We only get 1 life! Make the best of it
Also look at how you led the question. “I Really want to go back to school.” That clearly states what you want, and you already know it. Your letting guilt from your salary effect your decision. If your family will be fine, then go for it while you know you can!
“Might need to …clip that for the ‘YouTubes’…” reminds me of when Pat had the daily webcast and was telling us he would edit ‘this or that’ for the podcast or when he puts it on his YouTube channel!

I love the lesson here, I agree life is too short to do things you hate
“Let Go” (Pat’s book) is pride of place on my book shelf and a guide for my life goal. I am now following my dreams with a brand that would never have existed if it wasn’t for starting a podcast “because of Pat” (A recurring theme now in my home). Now pivoting and growing YouTube on your advice (and its growing) and putting all my focus into the App that supports the podcasts brand.
Y’all. LOL๐
I have been an RN for YEARS. I think by now the jig is up… I’m stuck in a job I really like that has as many downs as ups but if I had my druthers I would go back to school to be a physicist. ๐
Hi Pat!! Good call on this. Ive heard you use this analogy several times on your podcast and i always find myself nodding my head in agreement. I wish more people would use this in their decision making process, just to see where it takes them. I’ve used this exercise so many times and it has yet to steer me wrong. Thank you so much!!๐
Thanks for providing the insight that allows the decision maker to weigh their options, Pat! Always so on point!
2:08 Getting called out by name! ๐
Really great thought provoking conversation here. I also think it’s okay to find a middle ground.
Try going part time for a while. This allows you to still have income, but also test the waters of not being there as often.
OMG- your timing is impeccable. I just made a major decision and don’t regret it at all!
Really strong and powerful message Pat. People often underestinamte the value of time and doing what you love compared to the safety of money and a fixed salary. I also REALLY love the shirt – great message
Same decision I just made, to quit my job to start a fresh new start! Thanks Pat, ciao from Italy ๐ฎ๐น
Hi Louis! Good to see you. What are you up to these days? GG
Yo Bro! Hood to see you! #Bruh!
Thanks for your encouragement, Pat! I just left a very secure job to join my friends on #TeamFlynn in the entrepreneurial adventure. Youโve helped โ & are helpingโ immensely. Itโs an exciting jungle of opportunities & threats but Iโm making good progress with โMachete Manโ in the lead. (Donโt worry, itโs a metaphorical machete.) ~ Connie (AKA GG)
