Here's a story about the time I said "no" to a 9-figure business offer from a company that wanted me to come on as a CEO with some INCREDIBLE benefits, including an options vesting plan that would have made me millions (if things went according to plan, of course). I'll share what industry this was in, and the decision making process I used to make sure I made the right decision.
I think I made the right decision. What do you think?

Aloha Pat. Great panel last week. Appreciate you.
Do you Boo!!!!
Always appreciate your life examples Pat. Would love to catch you in SPI Pro AMA tomorrow, but I am still in my 9-5. Hope to make more of these in the future when I am all in my own business! side-note, loved your most recent podcast SPI #507, with Jeff Walker on PLF.
This is a really great thought process. Definitely makes you look at the opportunity from the inside out.
Pat, you always provide us encouragement in thought – provoking ways! Awesome!!
Awesome pattern-interrupt @ 1:40! As always, great actionable teaching. Thanks, Pat!
So glad you chose to stay here for us because you are making such a tremendous difference in our lives! I’m using this as I retire in 10 days & dive into a new adventure. Thanks!
Great way to play it all out. I’m ready to take a step at something different. Just don’t know what it is. I’m really interested in learning how to edit, video, etc. Something along those lines
@grandma goodie’s Bible stories That’s amazing, good luck with retirement, and you’ll do great in your future ventures!!!! Great seeing you in the comments!
This is an elaborate verison of Marvels “What if.”
Thank you for sharing your experiences.
I love the thought experiment!
CEO roles aren’t the most family-friendly ones unfortunately :/
Traditional CEO roles, absolutely.
@Pat Flynn I’m glad this is finally starting to change as leaders become people-first!
If you have to worry about the backup generator as the CEO of a business with thousands of employees then there is something seriously wrong with its structure!
It’s a hosting company, and backups for their servers are one of the most important things to guarantee uptime. If it’s not a concern of the CEO, to at least appoint the right people to make sure it’s enough, and the multi millions of dollars in decisions, then I’d be worried.
@Pat Flynn exactly. I think the commenter got confused between being tasked to execute the backups and being responsible for that work.
So Glad We got option B…. U have impacted my life…. not matter how big, or how small… just know that u have Positively impacted, Atleast 1 life, thousands of miles away from you…. and I’m guessing many others as well…. Pat Flynn for the Win!!!
Always love hearing your thought Pat Too Real, funny I feel like it’s a cooping mechanism some of us share👊💜 Deep Pocket Monster’s all the way & keeping the family together & Vibing along the way! 🌮😎🍻
I have been at FlynnCon 2 years ago and I can say I don’t see you as the CEO of a 9 -10 figures company with thousands of employees.
Not sure being busy with endless meetings, loss of control over your schedule and an in-office presence represent the SPI lifestyle that U have built
@brandon vaughn Great seeing you too! Are you on LinkedIn? If so, I’d like to connect as Connie Neal but there are so many Brandon Vaughn profiles that I didn’t know which one is you.
@Grandma Goodie’s Bible Stories I am not unfortunately. I should look into it
You should have take it.
Great content 👌
And food news, R8s are getting cheaper! Thanks for the discussion.
Pat are we going to see you at VidSummit?
Honest question, who are you to say what I personally should have done. You are not me, nor am I, you.
Unfortunately I won’t be there this year, but I hope to make it next year, for sure. If you’ll be there have fun for me!
@Pat Flynn because it was huge money. You could retire early and enjoy life with your family. But I’m sure you already enjoy your life. Cheers.
I’d have taken the deal and worked for the company for 5 years. I would then invest the money in my own business venture. Just because you take a job, it doesn’t mean that you have to do that job forever.
Wow! What a simple yet profound approach to making tough decisions. Great content!
So where does one get this Delorean? Asking for a friend.
